COVID-19 Precautions

The COVID-19 pandemic is a great concern to all of us here at Hilton Head Macula & Retina.  We are actively monitoring updates from the CDC, South Carolina DHEC, American Society of Retina Surgeons and the American Academy of Ophthalmology to help us manage our protocols through this rapidly evolving situation.

We are screening all patients for specific symptoms of COVID-19 of fever, cough or flu-like symptoms, conjunctivitis /pink eye, or recent loss of taste or smell. We are asking whether anyone has been exposed to someone with the virus, traveled recently, or has flu-like symptoms.

When you arrive at the office

Please be assured we routinely adhere to very strict cleaning and disinfecting protocols in the exam areas and between each and every patient as mandated by our profession.  During this time of extra caution, we are exceeding standard protocols by extending our cleaning and disinfecting practices to all non-porous surfaces in common areas throughout the day.

When you arrive at the office, please stay in your car (with air conditioner on as needed) and call us the office from your car.  Someone will come out to see you and take your temperature and oxygen saturation.  If you and your temperature are normal you will be brought into the office to a recently sanitized exam room for your exam.  We will ask that you use hand sanitizer when you enter the office and put on your mask.    Please assist our efforts within our office and community by thoroughly washing hands and bring a mask. We will provide a mask if you don’t have one of your own.

We ask that, if possible, people accompanying you remain outside or in the car for the duration of your visit unless you need their assistance so as not to increase exposure risk. Please don’t bring gloves as they maybe contaminated.

If you wish to reschedule a routine visit to avoid public exposure, we will be pleased to oblige. Just call our office and we will facilitate.
